We summited Carstensz Pyramid on August 4, 2007! Carstensz Pyramid, in Indonesia’s province of West Papua, is the “eighth” of the Seven Summits, as the highest peak in the continent of Oceania. Some people think that Oceania is the continent, which includes parts of Indonesia, rather than just Australia. Although it was a short 4-day climb, Carstensz Pyramid is the most technical of the Seven Summits. And although it is on the equator, at 16,024 feet it is high enough that we had snow and hail on the summit. We also had lots of rain, so we were soaked to the skin by the time we got back into camp on summit day.
